Clifty Falls State Park - Trails 8, 2, 5, 4, 6 and 7

After getting the house in order and looking outside to see a beautiful spring day, the wife and I decided to head to Clifty Falls State Park for a little hiking. We'd heard good things about the park from friends, and it's only a little more than an hour away, so we gathered our gear and hit the road.

Amateur hour. After driving down to Madison, Indiana and arriving at the south entrance of the park, we realized we didn't have the necessary $7 in cash. So, we had to turn around, find an ATM, and pay some absurd service fees to get some greenbacks. Such is life, right?

Highlight hike. Since we got a late start and didn't arrive until nearly 3 p.m., we decided to hit the Clifty Falls highlight reel - namely, each of the four falls. So, we plotted a looped route using trails 8, 2, 5, 4, 6, and 7. If we'd had more time, I would've enjoyed hiking all of the trails to see everything there is to see, but time was short.

With the trails and route we put together on the fly, we visited Hoffman, Tunnel, Little Clifty, and Big Clifty Falls. Each had a little something different. Hoffman Falls had a great place to sit and chill just upstream from the falls. Tunnel Falls was perhaps the most dramatic - even if the best viewing angles were closed to hikers. Big Clifty Falls had some nice rock features nearby, and Little Clifty was...well...little.

Overall, we did nearly six miles, and I'd rate virtually the entire hike as easy. Here are some pics from the day hike:
